It's The Dark Crystal week for the Atomic Friday artjam and I decided to recreate the scene where Kira stands off against the Skesis with the crystal shard. Check out the other entries here: tinyurl.com/kl44c8d

Amazing art of such a pivotal scene!
Kira have always been the heart of this movie to me, without whom the quest would have failed. Many times over, Jen doubts his actions and tries to retreat from the quest. Every time Jen wavers, it is Kira who pushes forward and pulls Jen out of his slump and keeps him on the quest. This dynamic is reversed only once, which is when they were about to enter Skeksi's castle and Kira is overwhelmed by its dark aura and she advices Jen not to enter, but with Jen's encouragement they both climb through the opening under the castle and proceed. In the scene depicted here, once again Jen was wavering, crying to the Skeksis not to harm Kira and that he would stop if only they spare her life, but Kira tosses him the crystal and says "heal the crystal" thus taking the choice out of his hands, for she knew what her action would entail. To the end she was true.
