Some sample Mastheads I designed for my college newspaper, AC Times. I showed the first two to my editor-in-chief but she rejected them saying that she didn't want to stray too far from the old design (wish she told me beforehand ). So the finished product is the third one, taking some elements from the first masthead.
that's a shame that she didn't want to stray, because i really like the first one! but all 3 of them are excellent, so it's a success any way you look at it!
When you ask them what they want they just say, "ikaw ng bahala".
Then you bust your hump to make kick ass studies. You present them and they say, "I think I like the old design best. We'll go with the old one after all".
It sucks balls when that happens at least they liked the layout of the first one (see the similarities between the final product and my first design)
speaking of which, what happens when you're halfway into a project and your client just suddenly goes, "Oh. It turns out we don't need your services anymore?" Would it be all right to skin him/her alive and soak him/her in a vat of vinegar?
Ah, that is why I ask for a 50% downpayment, non-refundable (you can go as low as 25%) to cover expenses and other misc expenses which you may encounter in doing the job.
Otherwise I would suggest voodoo as it's much harder to pin the event on you. You can be easily traced if you went the "soak in vinegar" route (though it is entertaining, I grant you that).
Aside from that, it's best to chalk it up to experience and try not to let it happen again.

Don't mind my rant. Just reliving old memories.

Hahaha! Voodoo eh? Dabbled in it once...just ONCE but hey, it worked and I never turned to the dark side again....
